Greetings from WorkSTEPS’ virtual/remote corporate offices!

Like many of you, WorkSTEPS has implemented a “work from home” policy to preserve the health and safety of our staff and their families, and in an abundance of caution in trying to “flatten the curve” of the spread of COVID-19. As our Chief Medical Officer Ben Hoffman said in his most recent email update on COVID-19, flattening the curve will require more than some of us doing some of the right things; it will require all of us, working together with urgency. All. Together. Now.

Dr. Hoffman is an epidemiologist who has spent his career as a Medical Director and occupational health consultant for multi-national corporations, is providing twice-weekly updates on how the COVID-19 virus is impacting employers and occupational health generally.

In conversations we have had with many of you – our employer clients and our providers – we’ve learned a great deal about the challenges you face related to COVID-19. We’ve learned that employers are seeking high-quality, vetted information regarding best-practices and recommendations in keeping workers safe. Many of our employers provide “essential” services that the nation and local communities rely on to keep things running in these uncertain times. We thank you for continuing to provide those services during this time of uncertainty.

As a leader in workplace safety for the past thirty years, and relying on the expertise of Dr. Hoffman and the entire WorkSTEPS medical team, we have been providing limited occupational health consulting services related to COVID-19 to a few of our employer clients who have a national/international presence. Additionally, we have created a COVID-19 hotline to help employers appropriately process employees who test positive for the virus, exhibited symptoms of the virus, or who have been personally exposed to the virus. We have also setup limited onsite COVID-19 screenings assistance for employers in essential industries.

We are still scheduling testing to comply with local and state “shelter in place” orders. We have spoken with many of our providers to better understand the challenges they face, and to solicit their feedback on how to safely test candidates, and we welcome continued feedback from our providers on how to safely and efficiently manage testing demands from employers in essential industries. That being said, the landscape is constantly evolving, and we will continue to update our employer clients as new information regarding mandated clinic closures becomes available.
